Dr. Rick Wickstrom is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Certified Professional Ergonomist. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the Ohio State University, completed Ph.D. coursework in Ergonomics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and received a clinical doctorate in physical therapy from Alabama State University. Dr. Wickstrom has been a consultant in occupational health for 30 years. He served as the lead editor of the 2009 APTA Guidelines to Evaluating Functional Capacity and has published many articles and technical papers related to functional capacity evaluation, work disability prevention and ergonomics. Dr. Wickstrom regularly testifies as an expert witness on matters concerning extent of physical disability, worker fitness-for-duty and accommodation.
His diverse professional practice includes transitional work-site therapy, functional capacity evaluation, worker accommodation studies, ergonomic job analysis, design of worker fitness screening programs, systems development, research, and training. He has invented a number of products, including the patented Physical Agility Tester, Total-Body Dexterity Tester, Adjustable Pull Strap Attachment for the Lafayette MMT, Ergo-Totes Set, WorkAbility Rate of Manipulation Test, WorkAbility Movement Screen, WorkerFIT software, and ExamFIT software. Dr. Wickstrom has dedicated his career to preparing occupational health professionals such as physical therapists with the skills and tools needed to assess functional job demands, evaluate worker fitness, and motivate successful transitions from work performance barriers to self-directed, physical fitness programs.
Dr. Gargano spent 26 years in healthcare as a private practice owner and clinician. He is board certified in orthopedics through the American Physical Therapy Association and a certified workability examiner providing occupational rehabilitation services. Throughout his career his mission was promoting the autonomy of the Physical Therapy profession. This lead to the development of the Workability Network, a multi-state network of private practice physical therapy professionals that deliver occupational assessment and treatment services. The WorkerFIT™ and ExamFIT software platforms promote this mission by providing orthopedic and occupational medicine clinicians with valuable tools to assist industry in reducing needless disability. As CEO of WorkerFIT, LLC he has innovated further applications of the WorkerFIT software in the areas of education, human resources and assessing physical function.
Dr. Gargano is a sought after public speaker both nationally and internationally for providing continuing education seminars to hospital systems, medical centers and universities. His areas of expertise include orthopedic manual therapy, occupational rehabilitation, treatment of vestibular dysfunction and management of head and neck pain. In 2013, he founded the Integrative Dry Needling Institute that provides dry needling training to medical professionals for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. He is a published author and is active in clinical research in the areas of manual therapy and dry needling.
